I send prayers and angels and Condolences to all to all of John's loved ones. . I have known John since 1968 - when we became next door neighbors on Lawrence Place. and we have been good friends ever since then. Even though I moved from the neighborhood in 1992, we kept in touch over the years as I moved around the world. We have many great stories and times that we shared in together, and many laughs. He was a really good and kind man and was always helpful to, and watched out for, everyone in the neighborhood, He will be sorely missed. I know that John is at peace right now and he is laughing. I am am having 50 trees planted in his memory in a National Forest so that his memory may live on. Enjoy, my friend. Bob Rivero

Lord, we come to you in sorrow as we mourn the loss of our beloved friend, NYPD’s finest John Hammond of Wantagh, Long Island. My mother fondly remembers her childhood walks to school, always greeted by a friendly NYPD officer. Unbeknownst to her, that little girl would form a lifelong bond with John, who, along with his late wife Ruth Ann, became like second parents to her. Throughout my childhood, my mother affectionately referred to John and Ruth Ann as "mom" and "dad." It was heart-wrenching to witness Ruth Ann's gradual decline, and we saw John's heartbreak without her. Now, dear Lord, you have welcomed John into your kingdom, reuniting him with his beloved Ruth Ann. We ask for your guidance for these two angels who have touched our lives so deeply. Amen.

I too was fortunate to have Uncle John and Aunt Ruth as my "adoptive" family thanks to that chance meeting on our parents honeymoon 65 years ago. I will always remember their visits to Buffalo and shared good times together. Also, our many visits to Long Island as children going to Jones Beach, boat rides and digging for clams in Long Island Sound. Will definitely miss hearing all his wonderful stories from his days as a Detective. Rest in peace, Uncle John. I will miss you!

I was fortunate enough to have Uncle John and Aunt Ruth as my God parents..my parents met them on their honeymoon and they became part of our family then. It was such a special time when they would come to visit..we waited with anticipation for their arrival and never wanted them to leave, even though I had to give up my bedroom. So many great memories. Uncle John was such a caring great Uncle with his quick wit. He will be missed by so many including his Buffalo family. Semper phi Uncle John and please say hello to Aunt Ruth for me..always in my heart ❤️
