Obituary

Loving husband and cherished father and grandfather Agustin “Jun” Sison, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 11, 2024 at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. He was 85 years old. Visitation will be in the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes, 2515 N. Jerusalem Rd, East Meadow on Friday, October 18 from 4pm to 9pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Martha’s Church, 546 Greengrove Ave, Uniondale, NY on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 am. Jun was born in Tarlac, Philippines, and immigrated to Philadelphia by way of Guam, before finally settling in Brooklyn in the 1960’s, to join his father and two sisters. In Brooklyn, he would meet the love of his life and future wife, Cristeta. They eventually moved to Uniondale in 1978 where they would raise their family. He graduated from University of Santo Thomas, Manila, Philppines, with Bachelor of Arts degree. Jun had a long and successful career in healthcare, working as a histology technician at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn for over 20 years, then Long Island Jewish Hospital before retiring in 2000. During his time at Kings County, he also successfully patented an automated histology slide stainer. He also owned and operated a travel agency business, Tamaraw Travel, for over 10 years. Jun was a man of many hobbies and passions and was a true “jack of all trades.” In his free time, he enjoyed maintaining his cars, playing poker, bird watching, hunting, and taxidermy. He also flirted with an acting career, with a brief appearance as an extra in the 1988 comedy, Jack and Jill Sa Amerika, starring Sharon Cuneta. During his later years, he treasured spending time with his grandson, Brandon, watching Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, and building Filipino lanterns (parols) for the holidays.
