Obituary
Emma Glowacky of East Meadow, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Predeceased by her husband, Fred Glowacky, she was known for her kindness and love of life and touched many lives in her 94 years. Born in the Bronx, Emma was a graduate of Walton High School and Hunter College. She majored in Spanish and worked in the import/export business following graduation. Her career took many twists and turns; she went on to become a beloved nursery school teacher and a secretary in the alcoholism unit at South Oaks Hospital in Amityville, NY, where she would also serve as an addiction counselor.
Her greatest roles, however, were as a mother and grandmother. Beloved by her sons Ted of Huntington, NY (and wife Ann Pokalsky), and Bob of Wellesley, MA (and wife Janney Wilson), she was all that one could ask for in a mother: kind, caring, generous in spirit and loving beyond measure. She was also a cherished grandmother to Caroline, Christopher, Alexandra and William.

Emma loved people, was blessed with many friends, and participated in numerous volunteer and social groups. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Raphael’s Church in East Meadow, where she served as a baptism minister. She also coordinated spiritual retreats for women affected by addiction. Additionally, she was an active volunteer and fundraiser with the Sons of Italy, a member of the Homemaker’s Club, a spirited Rummikub and card player, and a devoted fan of the Merrick/Bellmore Symphony. Emma spoke several languages and was also an avid traveler, visiting numerous destinations across the United States and around the world, including Cuba in the 1950s.
Emma was a kind, loving and gentle soul who will be deeply missed by those fortunate to have known her. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Alba and Shannelle, as well as the staff at Atria of Huntington and Visiting Nurse Service Hospice House in East Northport, for their care.
Visiting hours will be at the O’Shea Funeral Home in East Meadow on Friday, October 18, from 2–4pm and 7–9pm. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Raphael’s Church in East Meadow on Saturday, October 19, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
