Lieutenant Ryan Patrick Charkowick, affectionately known as “Uncle RyRy,” passed away peacefully at his Long Beach home on July 26, 2024. He was 45 years old. Ryan was born on October 20, 1978, and leaves behind a legacy of love and service. Ryan is survived by his devoted parents, Victor and Frances Charkowick; his beloved sister, Tara Wellman, and her husband, Chris Wellman; his Sister Meaghan Charkowick, his brother Casey Charkowick and his wife Christy, as well as his nephews and nieces whom he adored - Nolan, Jack, Kai, Adrian, Mara, Ziola, Opal, and Quinn A proud alumnus of Chaminade High School (Class of 1997) and Fordham University (Class of 2001), Ryan dedicated his life to serving others. As a Lieutenant with the FDNY, he worked diligently in Engine 217 and at the FDNY Training Academy, where he mentored and inspired many. His commitment to his role and to his colleagues was unwavering.

Ryan was universally loved and admired by his neighbors, colleagues, friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a gentle soul with a remarkable ability to touch lives and bring joy to those around him. His selflessness and kindness were evident in every interaction, and he would go above and beyond to support anyone in need. In honor of Ryan’s memory, a celebration of his life will be held from 2-8 PM on Tuesday, July 30. The family requests that any donations be made to the FDNY Foundation in Ryan’s name, continuing his legacy of giving and support. Ryan Patrick Charkowick will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his extraordinary spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family and community, and his boundless capacity for love.
