Obituary
Joan Connors, whose life was a testament to family, faith, and incredible courage died peacefully on June 25 at the age of 89.
Joan Dorothy Riordan was born on November 14, 1934 to Edna and Raymond Riordan in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School where she met the love of her life, Vincent Connors.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She married Vincent on September 24, 1960 and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. Their partnership was a guiding light for their four children until Vincent’s tragic passing in 1978.
After a break to raise her family, Joan returned to Verizon and eventually retired after 25 years of service.
Joan instilled in her children Jayne (Donald), Nancy (Vincent), Vincent (Rosemary) and Ellen (Rolando) the importance of faith and family. She cherished her role as the grandmother of Jack, Vincent, Caroline, Erin, Meghan, Amanda and Kerry who loved her dearly.
As a parishioner of St. Bernard’s R.C. Church for more than 60 years, Joan’s Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her through extraordinary challenges and incredible loss. Joan’s natural inclination was always to turn toward God for inspiration.
Joan will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who loved her. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live forever in the hearts of those who called her Mom, Nana, Meema, Aunt Joan and cherished friend.
As she enters the gates of heaven greeted by her beloved Vincent, may she rest in peace, embraced by God's eternal love.
