Obituary
Nigel Mohammed, beloved son, brother, family man, and friend to any and all who were blessed to have known him, passed away on June 7, 2024.
*
A lifelong New Yorker who grew up and resided in Wantagh, Nigel was a charismatic charmer with an unforgettable smile, a generous nature, an infectious sense of humor, and a personality that made him the life of every party.
Fearless, intrepid, full of joy, mischievous, funny, compassionate, courageous, with a heart as big as his dreams, Nigel poured his passion for life into everything he did, and he poured his love into every relationship. He loved completely and unconditionally, he lived life large and to the maximum, and he dreamed big and pursued those dreams in big ways.
*
Entrepreneurial and ambitious, Nigel was an accomplished craftsman, contractor, restauranteur, businessman, and an ardent car enthusiast. An artist in all aspects of his life, Nigel took particular pride in the work he did as a designer of high-end custom homes through Vander Homes, the company he founded. Yet Nigel didn’t just build homes. He helped lay the foundations for the dreams of so many whose lives he impacted: the homeowners whose visions he brought to life; the workers and craftsmen he trained; and the many individuals he encouraged to dream bigger and reach higher in their own lives.

Nigel is survived by his devoted mother Lynette Mohammed of Wantagh, N.Y.; two sisters, Nisha Whitehead (husband John) of Port St. Joe, Fla., and Anisa Mohammed of Baltimore, Md.; his maternal grandfather Arnim Smith; and a vast, extended network of loving aunts, uncles and cousins, and friends whom he loved like family. He was preceded in death by his father Fiad Mohammed, a Vietnam War veteran; his maternal grandmother Monica Smith; and his paternal grandparents of Trinidad in the West Indies.
