Dear Nina and Family,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your dear mom. Catherine (Kitty) will always be in our hearts and minds.
We met Catherine in the early seventies at a ski lodge. We chatted as if we were long time friends. It did not take long before we really became friends. I had been teaching in a Catholic school for six years and Catherine offered me a job at her school which I accepted. She was the principal of P. S. 153Q. I never looked back.
Catherine taught me how to be an effective leader in the public school system. She was compassionate and smart. She loved being an educator but most of all she loved the children. She always reminded me that children needed advocates in schools and that she was the advocate at P. S. 153. She was relentless in her fight for the gifted program at P..S. 153, called the Beacon Program. The Beacon program reached other schools in District 24. Additionally, Catherine created a curriculum to teach civic education. She knew that respect for others, caring about others, and being kind to others were critical steps to civic education in the elementary schools.
Catherine was the godmother to our younger son and she was always a close friend. She will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
