Obituary
Anthony J. Cozzi
08/21/1950- 05/23/2023
Anthony Joseph Cozzi, of East Meadow, NY passed away at home at the age of 72 on May 23rd, 2023. Anthony was born on 08/21/1950 in Brooklyn, NY to William “Ruzzi” and Philomena “Mina” Cozzi, his adoring parents who referred to their only child and son as “Mr. Wonderful”. Anthony graduated from Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, NY and went on to be the first family member to graduate from college. He received his degree in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz. In 1973, he then met his “beautiful blonde” wife, his “queen” Sheila Cozzi (nee: Keane) at Broadcasters Inn in Queens, NY. Where they danced the night away to disco which they loved, and would later be coined the “king and queen of disco”. In 1980, Anthony and Sheila wed at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Woodhaven, NY where they then purchased their first house immediately after. In 1983, they then purchased a house in East Meadow, NY followed by the birth of their first daughter, Christina Anne. In 1987, they welcomed their second daughter, Elizabeth Caitlin. Tony absolutely adored “his girls” and lived and breathed for them every day. He was adored as a husband, and beloved as a father. He was devoted to his family in every sense of the word. His newest, and proudest role as “Papa Tony” to his grandson Nicholas Henry born on April 12th, 2022 was his best one yet. He adoringly referred to his pride and joy as “ The G.O.A.T”. He was also a dedicated “Papa Tony” to his 9 year old step-granddaughter, Lily Nicole.
~
Tony was an avid golfer and beloved member of the North Hills Country Club for over 30 years where he was lovingly referred to as “Uncle Tony”. He was an avid sports fan, loved to watch golf, the Mets & Jets, the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls. He spent hours watching CNBC and the like, and loved his stocks. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in Bellmore, NY, an incredible softball coach to his “girls” at The East Meadow Little League. Tony was known as an incredibly hard worker, with grit and determination and was most proud of the business he started, owned and operated as a Manufacturers Sales Rep of TCD Sales.
Tony was adored, admired and respected by his cousins, his son-in law, his in-laws, his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues. Tony made amazing memories with everyone in his life and lovingly referred to them as “remember whens”. Tony was a man with a heart of gold and was looked up to by so many. Tony always did it “MY WAY” as an ode to his favorite song by Frank Sinatra.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Cozzi (nee: Keane) his daughter Christina Capobianco (nee: Cozzi) his son in law Jeffery Capobianco, his grandchildren Nicholas and Lily Capobianco and his Daughter, Elizabeth Cozzi. He will be loved, admired, remembered and respected for eternity.
In lieu of flowers, please see the organization his loving family set up in his honor. “First Tee” at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow will benefit things Tony loved: golf, kids and college and career readiness.
