My sincere condolences and prayers to the DeRudder family. I had the pleasure of knowing John for 11 years. I worked with him in Fiscal Service, during that time we traveled to Texas together for trainings and shared many great memories. Throughout the years I was blessed to continue to work with John in different capacities including recently with HR Recruitment Requests for Engineering. I can truly say in all the years I have known John, he was always a joy to be around, he was always kind, he was always smiling and really brightened up my day. He always had time to talk and to listen. He was always happy and really lit up any room or any place he was in. When I shared the sad news of John's passing with my team, the HR Manpower team, they were devastated. Although they worked with him for a short time virtually and never had the opportunity to meet him in person, from their conversations with him, they felt as if they knew him for a long time. John was such a special person and he truly will be missed. It’s really hard to think of a world without John and even more difficult to comprehend the Northport VA Medical Center without John there. But, truly John lives on in all of our memories and our hearts. It saddens me to think that there will be no new memories, no new conversations and no new laughs with John. But, I thank God for the 11 years that I was honored to work with him and call him friend. John was truly one of a kind.

John will be sorely missed. John was always very helpful and friendly when I would come to the Engineering Office. To me and to many on the national email groups, he would give assistance for various topics including sharing sample documents as examples. I am deeply saddened by his passing and will always remember him.

It is with a profound sense of loss that I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late John P. DeRudder. It has been my privilege to have been a colleague of Mr. DeRudder for more than a decade. It is no surprise to me that John was involved in a branch of the military, the greater part of their mission being that of search and rescue. This is in keeping with his character, always friendly, always quick to offer a good word or a hearty laugh, always positive and never having a bad thing to say of anyone. John was a good veteran, a good man, and most importantly to me, a good friend. I will miss him greatly as I pray for his eternal rest. I pray our Lord will be strong to save the soul of my friend, a man who dedicated the bulk of his life to the mission of keeping others safe from harm. May he receive an eternal reward. Peace dear friend, and may the sea be ever calm on your journey.

I only worked with John for a year and a half, just a couple of offices away from his, and walking past his office several times a day. I thanked him many times for the help he gave willingly to me and others. He was always very helpful and sincere. I am thankful to have known John for these few months, and will think of him every time I walk past his office. He will be missed.

John you will not be forgotten. I served with you in the USCG and you were always a gentleman. I remember your smiling face sitting at that desk buried in paperwork at SFO Moriches and still took time to help me out. 20 years later we meet again at the VAMC Northport working in the same department. It was nice to see a familiar face and Coastie. Fair winds and following seas my friend Semper Paratus.
