Obituary Part 1
Edward Michael Hughes of Eatontown, New Jersey formerly of Somerville, New Jersey and Brooklyn, New York passed into eternal life on January 30, 2021 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Pamela and loving father of Kathleen Hughes Bettencourt, the late Kevin Hughes and son-in-law Bruce Bettencourt. Cherished Step Father of Jeffrey and Jill and Step Grandfather of Julien, Alexandre, Alyssa and Riley.
Ed lived a life that touched many. He was the beloved brother to the late Mary Hughes, the late Ellen Aloia, the late Kathleen Beichert and Susan Hughes. He spent his school days at Saint Joseph’s Preparatory Seminary in Holy Trinity, Alabama, a far cry from the streets of Brooklyn where he and his sisters grew up.
After the seminary Ed earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ which prepared him well for a long career in personnel and recruiting, first as a director of personnel for several Johnson & Johnson companies and then as the co-owner of Hughes and Podesla Personnel Associates of Somerville, NJ. His years in Somerville also afforded him the opportunity for membership in The Knights of Columbus, the Somerville Elks Lodge and The Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Ed was a devoted father to Kathleen and Kevin and always supported their dreams and desires. He was immensely proud of all of their achievements and accomplishments. Ed maintained a close friendship with Pat Hughes, the mother of Kathleen and Kevin.
Obituary Part 2
For the past twenty years Ed was devoted to his wife and best friend Pamela. Ed and Pam enjoyed traveling to visit their respective children and when they were home they enjoyed time on the Jersey Shore where they called home. Ed’s favorite past times and hobbies over the years included playing golf (including one hole in one), reading, traveling, doing crossword puzzles and enjoying good food and wine.
Ed left a lasting impression on all who met him or had the privilege to know him and call him a friend.
May Ed Rest In Peace and in reunion with his son Kevin and his sisters who went before him.
