Alfred Italiano Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Born in 1929, Alfred Italiano grew up on McDonald Avenue in Kensington, Brooklyn where he met the love of his life, Rosalyn, who lived down the block. They have been married since 1952. Fascinated with electronics, he received an associates degree in electrical technology from The City University of New York. Alfred served in the National Guard and then in the Army in the Korean War, where he was a surveyor for artillery in Headquarters Company from 1950 through 1952. When he returned to New York he worked at ConEdison until his retirement in 1991. He operated the board at the Kent Avenue Powerhouse where he had lifelong friends. Alfred and Rosalyn were married in September 1952 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. They lived on East 2nd Street and started their family. Robert and Roseanne were born in Brooklyn. They bought their first house in Rosedale, Queens in 1956 where Ronald and Joesph were born.

We moved to Wantagh in 1965 and Roz, Fred and the kids settled there. Enjoying their retirement traveling, especially to our ancestral towns of Belmonte Messagno, Cefalu, and Gratteri in Palermo, Sicily, Fred and Roz also enjoyed dancing as well as having good times with their many beloved friends. Fred was very interested in nutrition, maintaining excellent health until his last couple of years. He often asked his family and his many friends, “Have you taken your vitamin C today?” And if we answered yes, he didn’t give up there, he followed up with “How much?” Fred enjoyed golfing, bowled until he was 88, and especially loved fishing. Surf fishing at Jones Beach, Sunken Meadow Park, South Hampton or Montauk Point were his favorites. Enjoying the waves, sand, and seabirds, the serenity of nature brought him closest to God. Alfred and Rosalyn thoroughly loved and enjoyed their eight grandchildren. They constantly travelled to Connecticut, Massachusetts and later delighted in watching the two youngest in their home in Wantagh. This closeness warmed everyone’s hearts and will leave a legacy of love for all their grandchildren that will never end.
