I never thought we would meet here...In May 2019, I met Susan in a seafood restaurant in Boston. As a Chinese student who first came to America to present at the AHA conference, this was my first time eating in an American restaurant. Susan talked to me and helped me out. And then, we built a connection via email. I told her I am a medicine student in China, and my dream is to do research in America. She always encouraged me via email. "Hope this email finds that you are working hard but want to come here still. Miss, you and just wanted you to know how much you mean to me even if it's halfway around the world from me." This is the last information she sent to me in the ICU. And then, I could not receive any communication from her. I was in China and had limited methods to find her information. The web bond was so weak at this time. The connection between us breaks.
I want to say I never forgot your words...I tried hard and got my master's degree in China. And then, I applied and was enrolled in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Graduate Biomedicine Science Ph.D. program. I came to America a month ago to start my Ph.D. program. I miss you, so I am trying to find more information about you. I thought you may discard that email address or are too busy to view your mailbox. I want to see your address so that we can talk via mail...I never thought I find this website first...I miss you so much and will keep you in mind for the rest of my life. In my whole research career, I will always recall your words. Work hard, improve yourself and achieve your dream; keep going.
You mean a lot to me. I am very sorry for your loss.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Susan. Susan was an amazing woman to work with and a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Susan was the most positive, happiest, smartest and kindest person in the whole world. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. If everyone was a little like Susan, our world would be a better place. God is celebrating His new Angel today and welcomed Susan into Heaven last night. My heart is broken for her wonderful family, her husband Gene, her sons Ryan and Kevin and her daughters Laura and Katherine and her grandchildren. May she rest in peace and may God bless her beautiful family.
