- ESPOSITO- James passed away surrounded by his loved ones on September 6, 2019 at the age of 58. He was the beloved son of John and Marie Esposito. He was born in Mineola and lived in Wantagh, NY. He was a 1979 graduate of Wantagh High School and graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BA in English in 1983. He worked at Anthem BCBS in Manhattan. He enjoyed spending time with friends, especially in Atlantic City and Saratoga. He tirelessly cared for his parents and siblings- he was our rock. Even while he was suffering he thought only of our well-being, especially his sister Nancy’s health struggles and the care of our mom, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his parents, his sisters Joanne Scopa (John), Nancy Esposito, Jeanne Evans (Michael) and Barbara Goercke (Mark) and his brother John Esposito. Loved by his nieces and nephews, Jeanmarie, Julianne, Jacqueline, Jackson, Matthew, Megan, Kimberly, Jack, Sean and his great-nephew Job. He loved biking to Jones Beach, he was wickedly good at the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle, loved betting on the ponies, and will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humor and wit. Family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday, 4-8 pm, at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SS PKWY) Wantagh, NY. A Prayer Service will be celebrated in the Funeral Home Thursday at 7 pm. Cremation Private. In Lieu of flowers, and in his memory, his family asks that you thoughtfully consider signing up to be a living organ donor. www.osheafuneral.com

I'm so sad to have come across this. I worked with Jimmy circa 1979 at Arby's. Jimmy was funny, charming, smart and I still remember him fondly more than 40 years later. I always wished that I could be more like him. Obviously, he left an indelible print on my mind. Rest in peace Jim - Jack

Jim and I were roommates in Wantagh. My prayers are with him and the Esposito family. A kind loving, gentle-man with a keen wit and smile. A selfless man who cared for his mother, father & siblings. There is a great void in my heart. Miss you buddy. We'll be celebrating your life tonight and birth to Eternal Life...

Jim and I were underwriters together at MetLife. We both started out on the “work up team” but Jim went on to work in New Business and I went to work on the Renewal team. Many years later we were brought back together when we worked to underwrite a start-up health plan in the Mid-Atlantic Region for United Healthcare. I was so lucky to be able to spend time with Jim again! We traveled many times together, got stranded in airports, drove home six hours in the rain when our flight was cancelled, and still he was fun to be with. During many stressful meetings he never lost his sense of humor and was always the ultimate professional. Jim was one of a kind, a wonderful person and a caring friend. May you rest in peace Jim.

“Espo” was a legend at MetLife. I worked with and for Jim from 1987-94. Smart and wryly funny, you could always count on Jim, as many often did.
Espo, I hope that heaven has a good sense of humor. They’re going to need it!
Until we meet again...

I met Espo in 1991 at Metlife. He was my first Underwriting Supervisor. Our Dad’s both worked at Met so, “we were legacies, they had to take us”. Somewhere between Happy Hour after work at Hefron’s and today, we managed to become good friends. Over the years, we partied often together, even in Chicago and New Orleans. My wife, Anita, would endlessly try to fix him up on dates with her friends. Four or five times a year, he would come out and crash overnight at our home on Long Island. He’d pull in our driveway in his green convertible, top down and blasting Herb Albert music loud enough for the whole County to hear. He’d bring half a liquor store with him from Wantagh, and we would eat, drink, swim and shoot pool until the wee hours of the morning. When I wanted to make an independent film, he was quick to accept my offer for him to play a lead role in a part that I wrote specifically based on his life. We spent a year making the film and decided that it was one of the most fun times of our lives. His humor was wickedly sharp, dry and sarcastic and he was extraordinarily giving and generous. He loved his Kansas City Chiefs, the Mets and the ponies. Today, I lost a friend. Rest in Peace, Espo. You deserved a lot better than these last few months.
