“Auntie Maleen” as we called her was the dearest childhood friend to my mother, Lynne Christine McCauley (d. 1998, formerly of Point Lookout). Yet, even after my mother’s passing, Maleen kept in touch with me, my children, and my brother Jude. Every year without fail, she would send us chocolates for Christmas. What a lovely, lovely human being. I would gather the kids around before we would open her package “all the way from New York!” and I would share stories of our visits each summer to Point Lookout. Storied visits to Peter’s Clam Bar and late nights out with Mom and Maleen, always with a Tab! You know what else? On the card she tucked inside, she was sure to list every one of my children by name, all five of them—every Christmas. A truer friend could not be found. God Rest Her Soul.
