Rest in peace my friend. Didn't know you very long but our short friendship will live forever. In that short time we made great memories, Mardi Gras, Jazzfest and fun each time yall were in NOLA. Prayers to Tricia and family. Emily

On the night of our first date, I decided I would call a cab to pick up my now girlfriend Jaclyn. On the way over to her house, Dan asked me who we are picking up and I explained how I barely know this girl and I'm pretty nervous
On the walk back from her door to the cab, "Taxi Dan" hops out of the front seat, tips his cap and opens the door for Jaclyn! Made me look like the man, perfect icebreaker. Dan told me to give him a call if we need a ride home and we haven't called anyone else since that night
I called in for "Ghostrider" Friday night and was told the news, we're so sorry to all of his family and friends. We're going to miss seeing Dan on the weekends, getting new suggestions of restaurants to check out and sharing stories. I'm going to miss giving him updates and his texts after each night out, telling me to "make sure I don't mess up because she's a keeper".
Thank you for giving us this story to tell to everyone who asks about how we met, you meant a lot to us Taxi Dan....and thank you for introducing me to "Jam Bands" pandora station! You will be missed

I'm stunned. I went to high school with Danny. Even though I hadn't seen him or thought about him in quite a while, when I heard this and saw his pictures on Facebook, I realized how tragic this was. I have nothing but great memories of Dan and will always remember him for all the fun and laughs. My heart goes out to his family and the rest of his friends.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. Dan was my housemate and one of my closest friends at JMU. While we certainly drifted apart since our college days I thought of him and the amazing experiences we shared together often. Unfortunately I was not able to reconnect with him in the recent past, but I can see he created a beautiful family and I know he will be deeply missed.
With caring thoughts,
Matt Narlinger

This is, indeed, surreal. My nightmare, my greatest fears have indeed been confirmed to be reality. I lost a good friend on Sunday.
I knew Dan Peterson for the last 20 years. He was one of a kind, a sweet gentle soul whose wit, love and compassion will be greatly missed by all those that knew him. His love for his wife, his children, family members and friends was exemplary. We should all base our love for one another on Dan's love, respect and admiration. He was taken far too soon. In all the time I knew him, I cannot remember any time getting angry or annoyed at him.
In the taxi business, he had regular customers who would rather wait an hour for Dan than ride with someone else sooner.
To know Dan is to love him. I feel badly for all of us that knew him and loved him because we are left to mourn and suffer at the loss of this great big man in a small package. Some of my favorite memories of Dan are his way of "breaking horns" with me. Physically, I towered over him yet when I spoke with him, I always had to look up to him because he was one to admire and respect. I am sad for all that knew and love him, but I am even sadder for those that never had the opportunity to meet him.
Dan Peterson is one man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I know that I will. He was, and still is, a gem. If we all keep his memory alive in our hearts and minds, he will live on and be with us forever.
I love you Dan Peterson. RIP.

To Trisha and family,
I worked with Dan at the Athlete's Foot back in the day. He was a fun loving, kind person that I'm happy to consider a friend. Although we lost contact over the years we managed to reconnect through Facebook. I am so sorry for your loss and I pray for strength and comfort for you and your children. This is very difficult to comprehend but he will live on in your hearts. Hold tight to the memories: they will be very important as you continue on. God bless you and your family.
