Langer - JoAnn of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, passed away on July 27,2015 at the age of 65, after a long and brave battle with cancer. A life long New Yorker, JoAnn was born in Ozone Park, Queens, New York. Her lifelong passion of women's fashion guided a long and highly successful career as an apparel merchant. Her first job in the industry, not far from her childhood neighborhood, was at Gertz department store in Jamaica Queens, NY. Following that, JoAnn took on executive roles at numerous industry-leading businesses, including Stix Baer & Fuller, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Tahari, Anne Klein, Susan Bristol, GM Design Group, Alvin Valley, leading to her role at TJX Canada in 2008 where she worked till recently. JoAnn's most recent post at TJX was Senior Vice President Merchandising Director. JoAnn guided merchants and buyers for the Canadian Winners store chain. Throughout her career, JoAnn demonstrated a wonderful talent for forging strong partnerships with vendors and for fostering a stimulating, positive and rewarding environment for her employees. Her husband Joe Powers predeceases JoAnn. She is survived by her sister Elaine, niece Jennifer Carpentieri, Jennifer's husband Billy and Jennifer's daughter Alysa. A wake will be held Wednesday, July 29th from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm, at the Charles O'Shea Funeral Home: 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SS PKWY) Wantagh Long Island 11793 Tel. # 516 731 5550.
