Obituary

Jorge “Cuquito” Liciaga was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Angelina “Tula” Liciaga Ressy. He spent his young-adult years establishing a family in Corona, Queens and ultimately settled in Hicksville, Long Island where he spent the majority of his life. He graduated Baruch College in 1979 and to the envy of his peers, was one of the first minorities recruited to work for Arthur Anderson which was one of the “Big Eight” accounting firms. He was well known for being a godly man and served his church in multiple facets including usher, assistant treasurer, security detail, medical team, Deacon, and New York State Registered Chaplain. He donated his time to coaching youth basketball and bereavement counseling at the Center for HOPE affiliated with the Cohen Children’s Hospital. He created an internship program at the New York City Board of Education designed to create equity for minorities in his workplace of thirty-eight years. This program was his way of paying it forward to his community and his Alma-Mater as it gave preferential placement to Baruch graduates seeking careers in Auditing. He also devoted over thirty years to H&R Block as a bilingual accountant and operated a private accounting practice for thirty-two years.

He was a man surrounded by love bestowed upon him by a large extended family, friends, colleagues, and his faith-based community. He left this earth to be united with the Lord on July 3, 2023. Services will take place Friday, July 7, 2023 from 4pm to 8pm at Bethlehem Assemblies of God in Valley Stream. Burial will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Pinelawn Cemetery with Afterglow hosted by Frank and Melvis following.
